Meet Alanie
Welcome to Cambridge Pilates!
At Cambridge Pilates, we believe strong movement starts from the core. Pilates is the perfect way to build a solid foundation for any exercise routine. At Cambridge Pilates, we focus on strengthening the deep muscles that stabilize you from the inside out. Think of it as learning to "switch on" the right muscles – it helps you move safely and avoid injuries. Pilates is also a great way to complement other activities you love, like running or sports.
Meet Alanie, Your Passionate Pilates Instructor:
Our director and head instructor, Alanie Steenkamp, has been a Pilates convert for over 20 years! It all started when her mom found relief from back pain with Pilates after being told she couldn't exercise again. Alanie was amazed – after just two sessions, her mom's pain was gone! Intrigued, Alanie tried it herself and discovered muscles she never knew existed. Plus, she noticed better posture, a lighter walk, and...well, let's just say she was hooked!
Pilates for Busy Lives (and Busy Moms!)
Alanie, a mom of three kids living in Cambridge, knows the stress of a busy life can take a toll on your body. That's why she believes 1-2 hours of Pilates a week can make a huge difference. We design our classes to be fun and social – a breath of fresh air in your week!
"Exercise shouldn't be a chore!” That's Alanie's motto. She takes pride in creating classes that her clients actually enjoy and look forward to.
Ready to join the fun and build a stronger, happier you? We'd love to have you!
Meet Mel

A certified pro in both Pilates group classes and personal training, Mel added Pilates to her toolbox in 2011, and let's just say she's obsessed! (We are too!)
Mel's Passion: Core Strength with a Twist!
While Mel loves all things core, Pilates holds a special place in her heart. From Oov exercises to using different sizes of balls, resistance bands, and barre work, she loves incorporating a variety of tools to keep your workouts fresh and fun. And of course, no Pilates experience is complete without the Reformer! Mel uses it all to create a dynamic and effective workout for you.
Cambridge Pilates is lucky to have her as part of the team!
I started mat Pilates for general wellbeing and to help with my cycle trail biking. I can already get up hills better now! I used to have neck and hip problems and visited the chiropractor fortnightly but no problems with this since starting Pilates. The Chiropractor says I'm better toned and I can feel this helps with stress release and I am sleeping better especially at tail end of menopause. Thanks heaps Alanie - appreciate what Pilates has done for my general wellbeing
